Quality Education Opportunities


It has a high illiteracy rate of 60%, with less than 10% of the population attaining a post basic education qualification. Some schools have no chairs and desks, so students sit on bare ground for their classes.

Other schools have no classrooms, so students attend classes in improvised hatches as classrooms. Again, most of the schools the diocese has been able to provide standard classroom too are over populated.

A high school established as an affirmative action to educate girls, Mount Carmel Girls Senior School, initially lacked basic amenities such as decent restrooms, dormitory, dining hall and kitchen. The diocese has been able to mobilize resources to build one dormitory and restrooms and bath for them. There is still dire need for decent kitchen, dining hall and classrooms
